Y12 Photography Students in SFCA Exhibition

Year 12 A-level Photography students have been entered to have their work exhibited at this year’s SFCA exhibition, the 3 students have explained their concept and how it links with this year’s theme ‘Living the Dream’. Their work is also currently on display outside Starbucks.

Rachael Grey – Solitude

“I think ‘Living the Dream’ can mean different things to different people. For me, it means being surrounded by natural landscapes, where I find the most joy and tranquillity, immersed in a setting of complete isolation and escape. I convey these emotions through a carefully crafted series of images. These photos reflect my idea of “living the dream,” featuring expansive, untouched landscapes with no sign of human presence. When I hear the phrase “living the dream,” I envision this: vast natural scenes with dramatic skies that evoke a sense of escaping from the chaos of daily life. It’s a place where my heart feels truly at peace.”

Logan Masakidi – Breaking Boundaries 

“For a boy in working-class Britain, ‘Living the Dream’ might look like breaking free from the constraints of his surroundings, where opportunities seem limited and daily life can be a struggle. It could mean earning a spot on a top football team, getting into a prestigious university, or finding a way to turn a passion into a career. The real dream however is to prove to people that you can be something and that you don’t have to be a product of your environment and instead be a reflection of the good that can come from it. This dream could represent the hope of a brighter future, one where you have the freedom to explore the world beyond your neighborhood and the chance to create a life that defies the odds stacked against you.”

Freya Turnbull – Freedom

” ‘Living the Dream’ can encapsulate the idealised journey from girlhood to young adulthood, where dreams and aspirations take root in the imagination and flourish. For a young girl, it might mean embracing the freedom to explore who she is, breaking through stereotypes, and pursuing her passions with fearless ambition. It’s the moment when she starts to see her dreams not just as fantasies, but as attainable goals, fuelled by her curiosity and courage. This coming-of-age process is about discovering her voice, shaping her identity, and laying the foundation for the life she envisions—full of hope, resilience, and boundless possibility.
